Burns skin and smells weird?

I'm not sure if I just got a bad bottle, but it has a strange smell that's almost fishy and slightly like formaldehyde. It also burned my face shortly after applying, which lasted about a minute before subsiding. I really wanted to like this product but it just was not great for my skin unfortunately :(
